The Badaku turtle is the largest in Asia One of the freshwater turtles. They live in the tributaries and estuaries of the Andaman Coast, from Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, to Sumatra in Indonesia, as well as in the South China Sea, the Gulf of Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. This turtle feeds on the seeds of mangroves and other coastal tree species. Some smaller turtles also eat shrimps and crabs.
The Badaku turtle has a small head, an upturned mouth, webbed feet, and 4 claws. The body and shell are brown and black, and the abdomen is slightly lighter in color. The end of each year, from November to January of the following year, is the egg-laying period for mangrove turtles.
