The coat color of the Chesapeake Retriever is as close as possible to the environment in which it lived. All brown, sedge or grass colors are acceptable, and self-maintenance is preferred. One color does not necessarily mean you will be liked. White freckles on the chest, abdomen, toes or insteps are allowed, and the smaller the freckles, the better. Dogs with pure faces are popular. Experts judge that the color and quality of a dog's coat during exercise or in the show ring will be carefully considered. Scars of honor will not be detrimental to performance in competition.
Color that does not meet the standard: black color, except for the chest, feet, toes or instep, white color on all parts of the body does not meet the standard.
The gait is steady and free, giving people an image of being energetic and powerful. When viewed from the left and right sides, there is a suitable body shape, with uncontrolled movement in the forequarters, sufficient driving force in the rear, and flexible stifles and hocks. On inspection, there was no sign of the elbows pointing outward. Examination from the rear shows no signs of hock joints as there should be in cows. When the running speed continues to decrease, the four legs should tend to a center line.
