Male snakes have a white stripe on their ventral side, while female snakes have no or inconspicuous stripes. The appearance is similar to the red tail bamboo leaf green, but the red lines on the tail of this species do not surround the entire tail, and other species do not have the white lateral lines of the red tail bamboo leaf green. This species is similar to Fujian Bamboo Leaf Green. The difference is that the nasal scales and the first upper lip scale are completely healed or have only a very short scale groove; the internasal scales are larger, clearly distinguished from other scales on the back of the head, and may be tangent to each other or occasionally.
